"The images you will not forget.

  The artist you will follow".

Sondra Gilman

Founder of the Photography Department

at the Whitney Museum

I come from a lineage deeply rooted in photography, spanning three generations within my family. Growing up immersed in this rich tradition of visual storytelling has profoundly shaped my perspective on the world and approach to the art of photography.

My early experiences, especially while photographing indigenous tribes in Africa with minimal or no exposure to the medium, revealed the complex dynamic that develops between the photographer and his/her subject during a photo session. This encounter sparked a fascination with the transformative power of photography, a fascination that continues to drive my focus on portraying people to this day.

What holds a great importance for me is the boundless artistic freedom that photography offers, enabling me to interpret the world through a lens of timeless imagery.

I am compelled to engage in significant social, political, and cultural issues, exploring subjects like the sociological impact of war, the influence of religion, and environmental challenges. Despite my professional collaborations for commercial assignments, the projects that remain essential for my personal research revolve around amplifying the voices of those confronting injustice or sidelined by societal norms. Presently, I am actively involved in initiatives that bring attention to homelessness in America and the persecution faced by black individuals with albinism in Africa.

While I call New York home, my frequent travels take me to various parts of the world, each journey offering boundless inspiration for my work.
